Hilton Head, S.C. – Keller Harper and
Jack Crosby are both tied for fifth place to lead the Furman men's golf team following day one action at the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at Palmetto Hall from the par 72, 6918-yard Palmetto Hall Golf and Country Club.
Harper, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., and Crosby, a junior from Memphis, Tenn., each carded an opening day score of 145 to sit in a tie for fifth place in the 80-player field. Harper (74-71) and Crosby (71-74) carded the lowest rounds of the day for Furman as Harper turned in a 71 in the second round and Crosby in round one.
As a team, the Paladins concluded day one of competition with a combined score of 590 (293-297) and sit in fifth place among the 16-team field. Furman is two strokes behind fourth-place High Point and three back of Chattanooga in third place.
Ross Funderburke and
Walker Crosby are within one stroke of each other on the individual leaderboard. Funderburke currently sits in a tie for 47
th place at 152 (75-77) while Crosby is tied for 55
th with a 153 (78-75).
Reynolds Lambert rounds out the leaderboard for the Paladins tied for 60
th position at 155 (73-82).
Charleston Southern and Augusta sit atop the team leaderboard tied for first place at 1-over par 577. Individually, High Point's Brandon Einstein and Preston Topper of Kennesaw State are tied for first place posting a 4-under 140.
Furman leads the tournament field in par 3 scoring at 5-under par with a 2.88 stroke average while ranking fourth in par 5 scoring at 3-under and a 4.93 stroke average. The Paladins are also first with 33 birdies.
Lambert and Funderburke are both tied for first in par 3 scoring at 2-under and a 2.75 stroke average. Harper ranks tied for third in par 5 scoring at 4-under par with a 4.50 stroke average.
