Box Score LEXINGTON, VA. -- Chance Knox's 19-yard late third quarter touchdown reception gave VMI a 14-13 lead, and the Keydets made it stand in knocking off FCS 10th-ranked Furman in Southern Conference football action Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.
Furman (1-1, 1-1 SoCon) covered 62 yards from its own 10-yard line on its final possession, but the Paladins saw their chance to pull out the win end when a shotgun snap bounced off the hip of motion receiver
Ryan DeLuca and into the hands of the Keydets' Carter Johnson at the VMI 27 with 47 seconds remaining.
The Keydets (1-0, 1-0 SoCon) ran out the clock to collect only their second victory over Furman since 1980, spanning 28 games.

Hamp Sisson, turned up field, and outraced the Keydet defense on a 33-yard scoring play to put the Paladins up 7-0 following the PAT.

The Paladins responded with their best possession of the game, using 14 plays to cover 80 yards for an 8-yard Sisson scoring strike to tight end
Ryan Miller. Â Furman kicker
Timmy Bleekrode's failed PAT kept the lead at 13-7.
VMI's lone second half score came in quick fashion and was set up by 57-yard pass from Udinkski to Rashad Raymond, who gathered in the pass over the middle and took advantage of an official's screen and a slipped Furman defender to bolt to the Furman 19. Â On the next play Udinski floated an aerial behind a Paladin defender and into the hands of Knox in the end zone.
Furman outgained VMI 358-268 in total yards and shut down the Keydets' ground game, limiting it to just 20 yards on 22 attempts.
