Crosby, Funderburke Tied for 17th to Lead Furman at Irish Creek Intercollegiate

Funderburke Shoots Team-Low 69 in Second Round

Kannapolis, N.C. – Junior Jack Crosby and sophomore Ross Funderburke both fired an opening day 145 to pace the Furman men's golf team on Friday during day one of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate from the par 71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek.

Crosby fired an opening round 71 with four birdies and then added a 74 with two birdies, highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 14th hole, in the second round. Funderburke carded a 76 in his first round and followed with the team's lowest round of the day, 69, in round two paced by three birdies and an eagle on the par 4 fifth hole.

Senior Keller Harper enters Saturday's final round tied for 23rd place. Harper scored a 75 in the first round and added a 71 with three birdies in round two. Freshman Mac Scott and sophomore Walker Crosby round out the individual leaderboard for Furman tied for 66th place at 155. Scott recorded a 77 with two birdies in the first round, and birdied No. 13 and No. 14 for a 78 in the second round. Crosby began the day with an 82 in round one then collected three birdies in round two to finish at 73.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Sam Lape is tied for 30th place after shooting an opening day 147. Lape compiled rounds of 77 in round one and 70 in round two. His second round 70 was highlighted by birdies on No. 2, No. 6, No. 9 and No. 14.

As a team, Furman concluded the first day in 10th place at 586 after carding rounds of 299 and 287.

UNC Wilmington leads the Irish Creek Intercollegiate after day one by six strokes over VCU at 2-over 570. Sander Akeren of UNC Wilmington sits atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under par 134.

The Paladins are currently tied for first among the tournament field with two eagles, and rank third in par 5 scoring at 9-under and a 4.70 stroke average. Furman finished day one with 102 pars and 22 birdies.

Jack Crosby leads Furman in both par 4 (4.05 stroke average) and par 5 (-3, 4.50 stroke average) scoring. Funderburke has a team-best 3.13 stroke average in par 3 scoring.

The final round of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate tees off at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with a shotgun start.
