Kannapolis, N.C. – Junior
Jack Crosby fired a third round 73 on Saturday to lead the Furman men's golf team during the final day of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate from the par 71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek.
Crosby, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., teed off of No. 10 and tied for the team lead with four birdies to finish at 2-over 73 in the final round. Crosby birdied three of his first five holes on No. 12-14, and added a birdie on the par 5 sixth hole. He concluded the tournament tied for 20
th at 5-over par 218.
Senior
Keller Harper and sophomore
Ross Funderburke both placed in a tie for 29
th position at 7-over 220. Harper birdied No. 13 and No. 15 to secure a final round 74, and Funderburke contributed three birdies to shoot a 75.
Freshman
Mac Scott tied Funderburke with three birdies, two on the front-nine and one on the back-nine, to compile the team's lowest score of the day, 1-over 72, and tied for 64
th place with a 227.
Sophomore
Walker Crosby tied
Jack Crosby for a team-best four birdies on Saturday to round out the individual leaderboard for Furman in a tie for 69
th place at 229.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Sam Lape birdied the par 5 sixth hole and tallied a final round 76, placing in a tie for 42
nd position with a score of 223.
The Paladins turned in a final round 293 to finish in 11
th place at 879.
UNC Wilmington won the Irish Creek Intercollegiate by 16 strokes over second-place VCU at 7-under par 845. Sander Akeren captured the individual championship, winning by 10 strokes over teammate Blake McShea with a 14-under 199.
Furman tied for second at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in both par 5 scoring (-16, 4.64 stroke average) and eagles (2). The Paladins also registered a 3.48 stroke average in par 3 scoring, 4.22 stroke average in par 4 scoring, 152 pars and 38 birdies.
Jack Crosby tied for first among the tournament field in eagles (1), along with Funderburke, and second in par 5 scoring (-6, 4.33 stroke average). He also led the team in par 4 scoring (4.12 stroke average) and birdies (10). Harper recorded a team-best 3.08 stroke average in par 3 scoring and 35 pars.
Furman returns to the course April 19-20 for the SoCon Men's Golf Championship to be played at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
