SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. -- Furman's Anna Morgan (-1) is tied for fifth after Monday's opening round of the NCAA Louisville Regional at the par 72, 6,289 yard University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
A sophomore from Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan recorded two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine to turn at even par, then added additional birdies on No. 12 and No. 18 to finish the day with a 71, three strokes back of the individual leaders, Amelia Williamson (-4) of Florida State and Emilie Paltrinieri (-4) of UCLA.Â
Senior Madison Moosa (+6) concluded the first round in a tie for 71st after posting a 78 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 18, while junior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+7) is tied for 82nd after carding a 79 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 18 in Monday's opening round.Â
The Paladin players are part of a field of 18-teams and three additional individuals who are battling for a berth in the 24-team NCAA Championship, which will be held May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The top six teams and three individuals on non-qualifying teams will advance.
No. 8 Florida State (-2) leads the team competition by five strokes over 25th-ranked UCLA (+3). Michigan State (+4) is in third place, followed by host Louisville (+5) in fourth. Top-ranked South Carolina (+7) is in fifth place after one round.Â
Morgan and Moosa will tee off of No. 1 at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday in the tournament's second round, while Rhéaume will begin on No. 10, also at 8:50 a.m.
