Furman's Burkhardt Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman women's golfer Carly Burkhardt has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Burkhardt is the first member of the Paladin women's golf program to receive the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, which is valued at $10,000 and only awarded to 21 women's spring sports participants nationally.  Furman leads all Southern Conference schools with 23 NCAA Postgraduate Scholars.

An All-SoCon selection, Burkhardt was awarded the 2020 WGCA Kim Moore Spirit Award for overcoming adversity.  As a senior in 2020-21, she competed in 15 rounds over five events for the Paladins and placed 22nd at the SoCon Championships.  In the fall of 2019, Burkhardt played in four of Furman's five events, ranking second on the team with a 72.9 stroke average.

Burkhardt graduated in May with degree in health sciences, boasting a 3.83 grade point average.  She is a member of the WGCA All-America Scholar Team and garnered SoCon Academic Honor Roll accolades.  Beginning in the fall, she will attend Emory, where she will purse a master's degree in nursing.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. Athletics and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership, are evaluated.

In maintaining the highest broad-based standards in the selection process, the program aims to reward those individuals whose dedication and effort are reflective of those characteristics necessary to succeed and thrive through postgraduate study in an accredited graduate degree program.
