Furman Football Announces Team Captains for Fall Campaign

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman head football coach Clay Hendrix announced today that Devin Wynn, Elijah McKoy, DiMarcus Clay, and Hamp Sisson have been elected team captains for the Paladins' upcoming season.

Wynn, McKoy, and Clay are all fifth-year players in the Paladin program, and Sisson is a junior.

A two-time All-Southern Conference selection at tailback, Wynn has registered playing time in 42 games and made 24 starts as a Paladin, rushing for 2,468 yards and 25 touchdowns.  In 2019 he averaged a league leading 6.6 yards per carry among running backs while totaling 1,182 rushing yards and 14 scores, highlighted by a career best 217-yard, three-touchdown performance in a 58-14 road win over Samford.  The Greensboro, Ga., product and health sciences major heads into the 2021 season ranked ninth in Furman history in rushing and 10th in rushing touchdowns (25).

McKoy, a Rome, Ga., product who plays the bandit position, is bidding to return from injury that sidelined him for Furman's seven-game season earlier this year.  He has registered playing time in 35 games and made 27 starts in his Paladin career, racking up 236 tackles and 10 tackles for-loss.  He earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors in 2017 after totaling 64 stops, including seven tackles and two pass breakups in his career starting debut, a 45-14 road victory over Colgate.  A business administration major, he was named to the 2020 and '21 SoCon Academic Honor Roll.

Clay is a veteran of 42 games and 19 starts as a Paladin.  The safety from Atlanta, Ga., has registered 90 tackles, nine pass breakups, and two interceptions in his career.  He was credited with 38 tackles in 2019, which he complemented with interceptions in wins over Mercer (45-10) and East Tennessee State (17-10) that helped key the Paladins to an 8-5 record and FCS at-large playoff berth that season. He is an information technology major.

A Birmingham, Ala., native, Sisson has appeared in 19 games and logged nine starts at quarterback.  In 2019 he came off the bench to spark Furman to a 35-20 road triumph over Chattanooga and the following week passed for 277 yards and two touchdowns in a 60-21 win over VMI, helping propel the Paladins into the FCS playoffs.  He threw for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns in seven games this past spring. Owner of a 4.00 GPA in health sciences, Sisson is a three-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll selection and Commissioner's Medal recipient, and is one of 17 Furman student-athletes to post a 4.00 GPA for the 2020-21 school year.

Furman opens its 2021 season at home on Sept. 4 versus North Carolina A&T.
