HANAHAN, S.C. -- Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+3) finished in a tie for 36th to lead the Furman women's golf team Tuesday in the final round of the 17th annual Cougar Classic at the par 72, 6,301 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
Rhéaume, who hails from Lac-Delage, Canada, carded a 75 with four birdies in the tournament's final round to pace the Paladins over the three rounds. Sophomore Sophia Burnett (+4) scored a 77 in the final round with birdies on No. 10 and No. 15 to finish in a tie for 46th, and junior Anna Morgan (+5) tied for 51st after leading Furman on Tuesday with a 72. She notched four birdies in the round, two on the front and two on the back.
Senior Kyra Cox (+7) shot a 75 with four birdies in round three. She birdied three of four holes from No. 12 through No. 15, tying for 60th. Freshman Savannah Hylton (+8) finished in a tie for 66th after notching a 76 with a birdie on No. 15 on Tuesday.
Brooke Matthews (-25) of Arkansas won the tournament by 13 strokes after posting rounds of 63-64-64=191.
The Paladins were fourth with 177 pars for the tournament, and Furman ranked eighth in par 4 scoring with a 4.12 average.
Arkansas (-23) won the tournament by one stroke over Baylor (-22). Florida (-13) finished third, followed by Georgia (-12) in fourth. Furman (+13) tied for tenth with Wisconsin (+13), ahead of Power 5 opponents Michigan State, Penn State, N.C. State, Tennessee, and Maryland.
Furman returns home to entertain 12 teams at the Lady Paladin Invitational, Sept. 24-26.
