Furman & Anna Morgan Win Lady Paladin Invitational In Record-Setting Fashion On Family Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Junior Anna Morgan (-13) won individual medalist honors and led Furman (-23) to the team championship Sunday at the 47th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C., which was held in conjunction with the University's Family Weekend festivities.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan recorded her first career individual title in record-setting fashion, posting a three-day total of 65-67-71=203, the lowest 54-hole total in the history of the storied tournament.  The previous record of 205 was set in 2016 by Jiwon Jeon of Daytona State.

In the tournament's final round, Morgan turned at 1-over then scored consecutive birdies on No. 12 and No. 13.  On No. 18, after finding a fairway bunker on her tee shot, she flew the green on her approach but holed out her chip shot from 30 feet behind the green to take a 7-stroke victory over senior teammate Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (-6), who carded her third-straight round of 70, with three birdies in her first four holes, to finish as runner up.

Furman (-23) won the tournament by 32 strokes with a three-day total of 841, shattering the previous tournament record of 853, which was established by Texas in 2016.  The Paladins had four players finish among the top 7, including sophomore Sophia Burnett (-2), who shot an even 72 with three birdies to finish in fifth place, and senior Kyra Cox (E), who fired a 71 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 18.

Freshman Savannah Hylton (+23) tallied an 80 in Sunday's final round to finish in 66th place, while sophomore Caroline Crumrine (+11), who played as an individual, notched a 75 with a birdie on No. 3 on Sunday, tying for 39th.

North Florida (+9) and August (+9) tied for second place, while Coastal Carolina (+10) finished in fourth place.  James Madison (+15) rounded out the top five.

Furman will compete at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 15-16 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
