DURHAM, N.C. -- No. 17 Oklahoma downed Furman, 4-1, Saturday in the opening day of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.

The Paladins won two doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Senior Julia Adams and sophomore Ellie Schoppe outlasted Ivana Corley and Carmen Corley, who were ranked No. 1 in the ITA preseason doubles ranking, 7-5, at flight one, while junior Madison Dillon and freshman Ellie Schulson posted a 6-3 victory over Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva, 6-3, at flight two.  The flight three was unfinished with Furman freshmen Sara Snyder and Jess Dawson leading Anchisa Chanta and Marcelina Podlinska, 6-5. 

The Sooners scored four singles points for the win.  Carmen Corley, who ranks 105th nationally, beat 45th-ranked Adams, 6-1, 6-4, in the top-seeded contest, and No. 16 Sleeth topped Dillon, 6-1, 6-2, at flight two.  In the number four match up, Chanta came from behind for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over 65th-ranked Snyder, and Emma Staker, who ranked 101st nationally, defeated Schulson, 6-4, 6-1, at flight six.  

The matches at flights three and five were unfinished in third sets.  Schoppe led 83rd-ranked Ivana Corley, 2-6, 6-3, 4-3, at number three, and Dawson was tied with Pisareva, 6-4, 3-6, 4-4, at number six.

Furman (3-2) will face Nebraska Sunday at 10 a.m. in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend n Durham, N.C.
