GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team concluded play Sunday at the Sea Pines College Tournament, which was held this weekend in Athens, Ga., at the Magill Tennis Complex.

The Paladins scored four doubles wins, as sophomore Ellie Schulson and freshman Luca Victoria Vocke defeated Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins of Charlotte, 6-1, in Friday's opening round, and on Saturday, sophomores Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder blanked Shahar Biran and Alesya Yakubovich of Old Dominion, 6-0.  Sophomores Alexa Griffith and Marissa Pennings held off Old Dominion's Mya Byrd and Allison Isaacs, 7-6(6), and Dawson and Snyder slipped past Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech of Charlotte, 7-6(3).

In singles action, Furman won four matches on Friday.  Dawson outlasted Yakubovich of Old Dominion, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, and Vocke scored a 6-3, 7-6(6) victory versus Charlotte's Wilkins in her collegiate debut.  Pennings defeated Sawhney of Charlotte, 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, and Griffith beat Old Dominion's Byrd, 6-3, 6-3.

Snyder recorded a 5-4 victory Saturday when her match versus Schech (Charlotte) was retired, and on Sunday, Dawson topped Isaacs (Old Dominion) 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.  Pennings blew past Byrd, 6-1, 6-0, also on Sunday.

"This weekend was valuable, as it was our second opportunity for the team to put in competitive situations and for us as a coaching staff to see how the girls respond in those moments," said Furman head coach Michelle Dasso.  "We are placing a lot of emphasis on decision making, but even more so on how we are carrying ourselves between points.  Our doubles showed a lot of growth over the first two fall tournaments.  We will deliberate in our practice sessions these next two weeks and focus on some specific areas individually to be the most prepared we can possibly be for the upcoming Carolina regional."

Furman will compete at the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 13-17, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
