DALLAS, TEXAS-- Furman senior Walker Crosby (-11) fired a career-low 65 to tie for second Tuesday and lead the Paladins (-19) to a fourth-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which was hosted by SMU at the par 72, 7372 yard Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
Crosby, a native of Memphis, Tenn., recorded consecutive birdies on No. 2 and 3 and an additional birdie on No. 7 to turn at 3-under. After a birdie on 10 and three pars, he reeled off three-straight birdies on No. 14 through No. 16, finishing the round with a team-high seven birdies and 11 pars. He finished the tournament two strokes behind individual medalist Nathan Petronzio (-13) of host SMU, who won with rounds of 68-67-68=203.
Sophomore Will Morlan (-7) tied for seventh after recording a 74 with three birdies on Tuesday, and seniors Sam Lape (+1) and Ross Funderburke (+1) tied for 39th. Funderburke carded a 71 with six birdies, including three-straight to end round three, while Lape notched a 73 with three birdies in the final round.Â
Sophomore Trey Diehl (+4) notched a career-low 71 with three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5, to tie for 54th.Â
Little Rock (-31) won the tournament by three strokes over host SMU (-28). Baylor (-23) was third, followed by the Paladins (-19) in fourth. SMU's B team (-16) took fifth place.
Furman tied for third with a 3.03 scoring average on the par 3s and was fourth with a 4.03 scoring average on the par 4s. The Paladins ranked third with 59 birdies over the 54-hole tournament.
The Paladins will compete at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State, Oct. 9-11, in Johnson City, Tenn.
