WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Furman dropped a 5-2 decision to Wake Forest Saturday at the Wake Forest Outdoor Tennis Courts in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Sophomore Ellie Schoppe, who is riding a seven-match winning streak, defeated Anna Campana, 6-3, 6-0, at flight two singles, while freshman Ellie Schulson, who boasts a 6-2 singles record this season, came from behind for a 6-7(5), 6-4, 1-0(13-11) victory versus Brooke Killingsworth at number six singles.
In doubles action, Schoppe teamed with senior Julia Adams for a 6-2 win over 22nd-ranked Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten at flight two. Wake Forest won the remaining two doubles matches for the point, with ninth-ranked Anna Brylin and Killingsworth defeating Schulson and junior Madison Dillon, 6-0, at flight one, and Saby Nihalani and Peyton Pesavento slipping past freshmen Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder, 6-4, at number three.
Wake Forest (5-2) scored a flight one singles, where 39th-ranked Carolyn Campana beat Adams, who ranks 62nd nationally, 6-0, 6-1, and at flights three through five. Wooten, who ranks 50th nationally, topped Dillon, 6-4, 7-6(5), at number three, and Brylin outlasted Snyder, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, at flight four. At flight five, Martinelle defeated Dawson, 6-2, 6-2.
Furman (6-4) will entertain Virginia Tech Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
