HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Furman (+3) men's golf team shot even par on Tuesday to finish as runner-up at the Wexford Intercollegiate at the par 72, 6,913 yard, which was hosted by Francis Marion at Wexford Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Paladins, who finished one stroke back of winner Francis Marion (+2), placed three players among the top 15, including senior Jack Crosby (E), who posted five birdies on Tuesday to finish seventh with a final-round 72. Crosby, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., finished four strokes back of individual medalist Tobias Jonsson of Mercer, who is ranked 37th nationally and tallied rounds of 71-71-70=212 for the victory.
Junior Ross Funderburke (+2) notched a team-high six birdies, with four birdies in five holes from No. 5 through No. 9, to pace the Paladins with a 69 on Tuesday, tying for 13th, while senior Owen Burden (+3) tied for 15th after scoring a 74 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 14 in the final round. Â
Junior Walker Crosby (+5) finished in a tie for 29th after carding a 73 with three-straight birdies from No. 16 through No. 18 in the final round. Freshman Will Morlan (+8) scored a 77 with three birdies to tie for 45th.
Furman finished second in par 5 scoring at 4.90 and tied for second with a 3.00 scoring average on par 3 holes. The Paladins placed second in the field with 172 pars.
The Paladins will compete at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., March 7-8.
