RALEIGH, N.C. -- Multiple Paladins posted personal records, including senior Aaron Wier and sophomore Dylan Schubert in the 5,000m, to lead the Furman outdoor track and field teams Thursday in the opening day of the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
Wier, a native of Versailles, Ky., and Schubert, who hails from Loveland, Colo., finished 21st and 22nd, respectively in the men's 5,000m. Wier posted a personal best of 13:55.52, followed by Schubert who PRed at 13:56.60. Also in the event, freshman Gabe Montague won his heat and placed 54th overall with a personal-best time of 14:16.73, and rookie Foster Wilfong competed in the event for the first time on the collegiate level, recording a time of 14:41.13.
In the men's 1,500m, freshman Matthew Smith finished first in his heat and 43rd overall with a PR of 3:47.39.
Freshman Sierra Bower finished 48th with a time of 35:08.96 in the women's 10,000m, making her collegiate debut in the event and posting the fastest Furman freshman time for a women's 10,000m.
The Paladins will compete in the second day of the Raleigh Relays and at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C., on Friday.
