SUNSET, S.C. -- Junior Anna Morgan (+3) posted a final-round 75 to finish fifth and lead the 46th-ranked Furman women's golf team to an eighth-place finish Sunday at the sixth annual Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,386 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
Morgan, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., birdied No. 9 and turned at 1-over and finished the day 3-over, four strokes behind individual medalist Ingrid Lindblad (-4) of LSU, who ranks fifth nationally and tallied a three-round total of 74-70-68=212.
Sophomore Sophia Burnett (+10) paced with Paladins with a 72 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 5 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 24th. Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+18) tied for 63rd after scoring a 76 with a birdie on No. 11, and senior Kyra Cox (+20) finished in a tie for 74th after carding a 77 with a birdie on No. 11 in Sunday's final round. Freshman Savannah Hylton (+22) recorded a 77 with a birdie on No. 12 to tie for 81st.
Sophomore Caroline Crumrine (+41), who played as an individual, scored an 84 in the final round.
No. 18 LSU (+27) won the tournament by one stroke over 28th-ranked Illinois (+28). No. 25 Kentucky was third (+31), and ninth-ranked Florida (+32) finished fourth. No. 14 Florida State (+33) rounded out the top five. The Paladins (+44) were eighth in the loaded field, and finished ahead of Power 5 opponents Tennessee (+47), No. 34 Clemson (+48), Maryland (+53), Vanderbilt (+57), Kansas (+61), 42nd-ranked Purdue (+61), No. 23 Virginia Tech (+69), and Notre Dame (+81)
The Paladins will compete at the Southern Conference Championships April 17-19 at Barefoot Landing Resort's Dye Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach.
