GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman outdoor track and field teams recorded eight top-20 finishes Friday at the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. With over 1,700 athletes competing, the track and field meet, which consists of both invitational races and open races, is the largest on the East Coast.
Sophomore Dylan Schubert led the Paladins with a third-place finish in the men's 10,000m invitational race. His time of 28:52.85 ranks 18th on the NCAA East Regionals qualifying list. Senior Noah Dolhare was 15th in the event at 29:49.34.
Sophomore Carson Williams finished fifth in the 3,000m Steeplechase Invite, posting a personal-best time of 8:42.83, which ranks eighth on the NCAA East Regionals qualifying list. Sophomore Megan Marvin turned in a personal-best time of 4:14.97 to take sixth place in the 1,500m Invite, also ranking eighth on the regional qualifying list. Senior Aaron Wier knocked six seconds off his previous personal best in the 1,500m Invite, posting a time of 3:42.89 for 14th place.
In the women's 5,000m, sophomore Bethany Graham and sophomore Madelynne Cadeau, finished 19th and 20th, respectively, in the invitational race. Graham turned in a time of 16:14.09, followed by Cadeau with a personal record of 16:15.48. Sophomore Emily Little finished fifth in the open race at 17:04.39, an outdoor personal best, and freshman Sierra Bower was 21st at 18:05.35. Freshman Gabe Montague tallied a personal-best time of 14:01.02 for 36th in the men's 5,000m invitational race.
Junior Abigail Robertson placed 32nd in the 1,500m open race with a time of 4:29.43.
The Paladins will compete Saturday in the second day of the Virginia Challenge and at the UofSC Open at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track in Columbia, S.C.
