CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- No. 36 Furman, the top seed in the 2022 Southern Conference Championships, topped host Chattanooga, 4-0, Friday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

With the win, Furman (20-6, 7-0 SoCon) advances to the finals of the league championships for the fifth-consecutive time.  The Paladins will square off against No. 2 seed East Tennessee State Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.  The Paladins and Bucs are meeting in the title match for the fifth-straight tournamen, and Furman has won each of the previous four matchups.

Head coach Adam Herendeen recorded his fifth-straight 20-win season in years that the full season was completed.

The Paladins were victorious at flights one and three doubles to score the first point.  Senior Julia Adams and sophomore Ellie Schoppe, who rank 38th nationally, blew past Jessie Young and Caroline Gibbens, 6-1, at number one, and freshmen Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder downed Callie Billman and Coco Bosman, 6-2, at number three.  The flight two match was unfinished with the Mocs' Emma Van Hee and Nicole Abel leading junior Madison Dillon and freshman Ellie Schulson, 4-3. 

Schoppe posted a quick 6-2, 6-0 advantage over Young at flight two, and 46th-ranked Adams defeated Abel, 6-4, 7-5, in the top-seeded match to push the Paladin lead to 3-0.  Dawson outlasted Bosman, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, at number six to secure the victory.

Matches at flights four through six were unfinished.  

Chattanooga finishes the season at 14-9.
