AUGUSTA, Ga. – Junior Ross Funderburke (-2) tied for 16th to lead the Furman (+13) men's golf team Sunday at the par 72, 7,086 Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
A native of Roanoke, Va., Funderburke teed off on No. 10 and birdied three holes on the back nine, with consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, to turn at 3-under. He finished the round with a 75 to pace the Paladins for the second-consecutive tournament.
Junior Walker Crosby (+2) fired a 70 with a team-high five birdies on Sunday to tie for 27th, while freshman Will Morlan (+3) tied for 29th after posting a final-round 74 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 12.
Senior Jack Crosby (+11) finished in a tie for 61st with a 77 on Sunday. He birdied No. 10 and No. 17, and sophomore Mac Scott (+18) was 68th after shooting an 82 with a birdie on No. 6.
No. 12 Texas (-50) won the tournament by 26 strokes over No. 2 Oklahoma State. No. 24 Illinois (-16) finished third, followed by 13th-ranked Notre Dame (-15) in fourth place. No. 28 South Carolina (-5) rounded out the top five. The Paladins (+13) finished 11th in the loaded field, which included seven ranked teams. Furman finished ahead of SoCon foes Mercer (-21) and Chattanooga (+27).
Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championship April 22-24 in Greensboro, Ga.
