STILLWATER, Okla. -- Sophia Burnett (+4) is tied for 13th to land 44th-ranked Furman (+32) in seventh place Tuesday after two rounds of the NCAA Stillwater Regional at the par-72, 6,303 yard Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
The top two individuals not on one of the four qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Burnett, a sophomore from Bluffton, S.C., enters the final round tied for the second individual qualifying spot. She posted a 2-over 74 in round two after birdieing No. 11 and No. 12 and sits six strokes behind Baylor's Gurleen Kaur (-2), who leads the field by one stroke after posting rounds of 75-67=142. Kaur was one of only six players in the 60-player field to shoot under par on Tuesday.Â
Junior Anna Morgan (+5) is tied for 18th after carding a 75 with a birdie on No. 16 on Tuesday, and freshman Savannah Hylton (+9) played flawless golf over the final 11 holes, shooting 3-under with birdies on No. 9, No. 14, and No. 17 over the stretch, to move into 31st place.
Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+16) rebounded on Tuesday for a 76 in round two to move up into a tie for 47th. She posted a team-high four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 13 an No. 14. Senior Kyra Cox (+28) is in 58th place after two rounds. She tallied two birdies on Tuesday, one on No. 9 and one on No. 11.
No. 17 Baylor (+1) leads the regional by 13 strokes going into the final round. No. 7 Arizona State (+14) moved into second place, while 31st-ranked Clemson (+17) is in third place. Host Oklahoma State, which ranks sixth nationally, is in fourth place (+18), just one stroke ahead of Michigan State (+19). No. 19 Auburn (+29) is sixth, and the Paladins (+32) are seventh. Furman leads N.C. State (+39), Cal (+46), and Tulane (+47).
Furman, which will tee off of No. 10 at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and play in a group with N.C. State and Cali, is part of a 12-team regional field that is battling for a top four finish and a berth in the 24-team NCAA Championship. The Stillwater Regional field includes four of the top 25 teams in the country led by host Oklahoma State, which ranks sixth in the latest GolfStat rankings. The Paladins, who secured the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing their 19th SoCon Championship last month at Barefoot Landing Resort's Dye Course in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., are making their 23rd NCAA Regional appearance. Furman appeared in 17-straight regionals from 1993, when the regional format began, until 2010. The Furman team finished ninth at the NCAA Auburn Regional in 2019 in Opelika, Ala., and last season three Paladins qualified as individuals for the NCAA Simpsonville Regional in Simpsonville, Ky. Morgan turned in a 16th-place finish to lead Furman at the event.Â
