PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Furman junior Ross Funderburke (+4) moved up seven spots ad is tied for 26th after two rounds of the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional, which is being held Monday through Wednesday at the par 72, 7-48 yard PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
A member of the 2022 All-SoCon team, Funderburke, who hails from Roanoke, Va., recorded three birdies on the front, including consecutive birdies on No. 2 and No. 3, then eagled the par-5 No. 10. He concluded the day with a 1-over 73. Kieron van Wyk (-6) of College of Charleston surged into the individual lead with rounds of 69-69=138 over the tournament's first two days.
In Wednesday's final round, Funderburke will tee off of No. 1 at 9:42 a.m. and will play in a group with Ben Carroll of Charleston Southern and Loyola Maryland's Jackson Roman.Â
No. 3 Vanderbilt (-9) extended its lead to nine strokes on Tuesday. No. 22 Florida State (E) paced the field with a 9-under 279 on Tuesday to move into second place, while 10th-ranked Florida (+2) is in third after two rounds. No. 40 South Florida (+6) is in fourth, followed by College of Charleston (+10) in fifth place.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments are being conducted around the country this week. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance after tomorrow's play to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 27-June 1, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.Â
