Furman's Adams & Schoppe Conclude Play At NCAA Championship

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Furman's Julia Adams and Ellie Schoppe concluded play Tuesday at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles & Doubles Championship, which is being held this week at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill.  

Adams, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., fell to 30th-ranked Elizabeth Scotty of North Carolina, 6-2, 6-2, in the singles tournament's opening round.  

The 2022 SoCon Player of the Year, Adams, who ranks 38th nationally, earned the Southern Conference's automatic singles bid and made her second individual championship appearance after completing in the doubles portion of the tournament last season.  She was named to the All-SoCon first team for singles and doubles after posting a 19-5 overall singles record and perfect 7-0 mark versus league opponents.  She boasts four spring wins over ranked opponents, including a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Margarita Skriabina of Texas Tech, who was ranked 16th at the time of the match.  

Schoppe, a sophomore from Stuart, Fla., teamed with Adams in the national doubles championship.  No. 13 Daevenia Achong and Eden Richardson of Miami (FL), downed the Paladins, 6-2, 7-5, Tuesday in the first round.  

The 34th-ranked Furman duo, which also earned the league's automatic bid, ranked as high as 23rd nationally this spring and recorded a 19-4 overall record and 6-0 mark versus league opponents with two ranked wins.
