GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Adam Beucler and Josh Powers have been selected to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Men's Track/Cross Country Team, as announced this week by the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee. As members of the all-district first team, the Paladin duo will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
A native of Hudson, Ohio., Beucler holds a 3.98 GPA in health sciences. He finished fourth in the 10,000m at the SoCon Outdoor Championship, logging a time of 30:58.03, and was fifth (14:29.82) and sixth (8:21.88), respectively, in the 5,000m and 3,000m at this year's league indoor championship meet. Beucler posted a personal-best time of 4:16.05 to finish sixth in the mile at the Gamecock Indoor Opener and finished seventh with a time of 26:06.0 at the Upstate Cross Country Invitational in the fall.
For his efforts at the Royals Cross Country Challenge where he paced the Paladins with an 11th-place finish, Beucler was honored as the SoCon Runner of the Week on Oct. 13. He was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll, the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Powers, a junior from Greenville, S.C., was named to the all-district team for the second-consecutive year. He boasts a 4.00 GPA in Spanish. Powers finished fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase at last month's SoCon Championship after taking second place in the event with a personal-best time of 9:24.63 at the UofSC Open in April. He finished 11th in the mile at the SoCon Indoor Championships with a personal-best time of 4:16.44 and won the 3,000m at the Gamecock Opener in 8:35.77, also a personal best.
In 2021, he was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team after placing seventh with a time of 9:56.47 in the 3,000m Steeplechase at the league outdoor track championships. He is a member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team.
Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
