Greenville, S.C. – Jeff Schaetzel has been named Furman director of video services, it was announced today by associate athletics director for facilities & game operations
Todd Duke.
Schaetzel, a graduate of Hofstra University, joins the Furman staff after teaching at the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla., since 2018. He served as course director for the school's sportscasting bachelor of science major, which used hands on experiences and professional mentorship to prepare aspiring talent in the areas of communication and production.
"We are extremely fortunate to add someone like Jeff to our Furman family," said Duke. "His experience in broadcast/media with ESPN and Turner, coupled with his role as department chair within the Dan Patrick School of Broadcasting, is extensive. Jeff is going to hit the ground running and our staff is looking forward to working with him."
In his new role at Furman, Schaetzel will oversee video streaming and broadcast efforts, as well as coordinating videoboard operations at all venues for home athletic events and special functions.
Prior to entering the teaching field, Schaetzel worked as a director of edit at Turner Studios for Turner Broadcasting Systems in Atlanta, Ga., from 2016-17. He spent over 20 years at ESPN, including working as senior coordinating director for studio shows at ESPN in Bristol, Conn., from 2008-15. Schaetzel, who directed ESPN's flagship studio show, SportsCenter, helped launch the SEC Network in 2014 and SportCenter in LA studios in 2009.
A winner of Sports Emmy Awards for Most Outstanding Studio Show with SportCenter in 1996, 2003, and 2004, Schaetzel directed SportCenter's coverage of the 1996 Olympics and 1998 President's Cup. In addition to his work at ESPN, he directed shows such as Closing Bell on CNBC, Premier League Soccer on NBC Sports Network, and Moneyline with Lou Dobbs on CNN.
