INDEPENDENCE, MINN. -- Sophomore Will Morlan (-8) shot even par to tie for third Monday, leading the Furman men's golf team in the final round of the Gopher Invitational at the par 71, 7,293 yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.  

Morlan, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., birdied No. 2 and turned at even par then added birdies on No. 12 and No. 18 on the back for this highest career finish.  He concluded the tournament three strokes back of Wilson Andress (-11) of Georgia Southern, who won by two strokes with rounds of 69-67-66=202.

Senior Sam Lape (-3) tied for 18th after posting a 72 with third birdies in Monday's final round, and senior Walker Crosby (+1) carded an even 71 with a team-high five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 and again on No. 12 and No. 13, to tie for 39th.  

Senior Ross Funderburke (+5) posted four birdies, including three straight from No. 12 through No. 14, for a 74 in the final round, tying for 59th, and senior Reynolds Lambert (+6) paced the Paladins with a 69 with four birdies to tie for 64th.  Lambert notched back-to back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3.

Furman (-10) tied for sixth and ranked fourth with a 4.00 scoring average on the par 4s.  The Paladins ranked fourth with 52 birdies, including 19 in Monday's round. 

Georgia Southern (-2) won the tournament by five strokes over Kansas (-15) and Kent State (-15).  Michigan State (-11) and host Minnesota (-11) tied for fourth, followed by the Paladins (-10) and Baylor, who tied for sixth.  The Paladins finished ahead of Power 5 teams Rutgers (-9), Notre Dame (-3), West Virginia (+8), and Iowa State (+13).

Furman will compete at the Old Town Club Collegiate Sept. 26-27 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
