Box Score Clemson, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team continued its season-opening road trip on Sunday afternoon dropping a 7-0 decision to the Clemson Tigers in non-conference action at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
Furman falls to 0-2 on the season while Clemson improves to 1-0 overall.
The Tigers captured the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead in the match behind wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker defeated 
Jerry Barton and 
Elijah Poritzky 6-1 at No. 1, and Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith won their No. 2 match over 
Thomas Kennedy and 
Cole Burnam 6-4. The Paladins secured one victory in doubles action from the duo of 
Ben Cahill and 
Alex Han at the No. 3 position. Cahill and Han collected their first victory of the season with a 6-4 win over Matt Pitts and Trey Stinchcomb.
Clemson followed by winning all six singles matches to secure the 7-0 victory. Azuma topped Poritzky in the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-3, and Plans Gonzalez won his No. 2 match against Barton 6-3, 6-4. At the No. 3 position, Pitts registered a 6-4, 6-1 triumph versus Kennedy, and Whitaker stopped 
John Rado 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4. Stinchcomb won his No. 5 matchup against Burnam 7-5, 6-3, while Nini Dica won at No. 6 over Han 6-4, 6-1.
The Paladins close out their four-match road trip next weekend, January 20-21, at Tulane and South Alabama.
