New Orleans, La. – The Furman men's tennis team resumed its four-match road trip on Friday afternoon falling 6-1 to the Tulane Green Wave in non-conference action at City Park Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 0-3 on the season while Tulane improves to 1-0 overall.
The Paladins struck first in doubles play to take a 1-0 lead over the Green Wave, collecting wins in two of the three matches.
Cole Burnam and
Thomas Kennedy got things started for Furman by winning their No. 1 match 6-3 against Charlie Barry and Fynn Kuenkler. In the No. 2 match,
Jerry Barton and
Elijah Poritzky secured the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph versus Luc Hoeijmans and Sam Scherer.
Tulane responded by capturing all six singles matches to collect the 6-1 victory. The Green Wave won five of the six matches in straight sets with the Paladins sending one matchup into the third set. Playing at No. 1 singles, Barton began his match against Kuenkler by winning the first set 6-1. Kuenkler would come back to win 6-2 in the second set and 7-5 in the third.
Furman wraps up its season-opening road trip on Saturday afternoon, facing South Alabama at 2 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
