GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman quarterback
Tyler Huff has been named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Huff engineered Furman to a 27-21 Southern Conference road victory over reigning league champion Samford on Saturday, passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 79 yards in the victory — the Paladins' 10 consecutive league triumph.
A graduate signal caller in his second season with the Paladins, he completed 19-of-29 passes and tossed touchdown strikes of two and one yard in the win, which improved Furman to 8-1 in its last nine road games versus FCS competition.
The weekly honor was the second of the season for Huff, who earned his first scroll after rushing for a school record tying four touchdowns in Furman's 31-28 road victory over Kennesaw State on Sept. 16.
Huff, who with the victory improved to 15-3 overall and 14-1 against FCS opposition as Furman's starting quarterback, has rushed for 1,085 rushing yds. and 12 touchdowns, and passed for 3,256 passing yards 21 scores in his 18 games with the Paladins.
A commissioned, active second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves, the Orange Park, Fla., native has been nominated for the prestigious Armed Forces Merit Award, presented by the Football Writers Association of America. Â The winner will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 9, on ESPN SportsCenter.
Ranked No. 3 and No. 4 this week in polls conducted by the AFCA and Stats Perform, respectively, Furman (5-1, 3-0 SoCon) travels to Cullohwee, N.C., this Saturday to take on No. 8/No. 14 Western Carolina (5-1, 3-0 SoCon ) in a 2:30 p.m. contest at E.J. Whitmire Stadium
