Cary, N.C. – The Furman men's tennis team collected five victories while competing at the ITA Carolina Regional Championship, which was being held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The Paladins were one of 24 schools competing at the tournament. Furman had a total of eight players playing in both the singles and doubles draws, including
Cole Burnam,
Leonardo Dal Boni,
Thomas Kennedy,
Connor Laymon,
Elijah Poritzky,
John Rado, and
Emil Westling.
Walker Allen played in the singles draw and
Ben Cahill competed in the doubles bracket.
The Paladins recorded a total of three singles victories and two in the doubles portion of the tournament.
Dal Boni reached the round of 64 in the main singles draw after defeating Campbell's Noe MacQuart 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(7).
In the consolation singles bracket, Kennedy and Burnam both advanced to the round of 32. Kennedy won 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 over Peter Murphy of North Carolina and then earned a bye to the round of 32. Burnam topped Wofford's Alex Horn in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(7) and would also receive a bye into the round of 32.
Furman collected both of its doubles wins in the main draw from Cahill/Westling and Rado/Laymon, moving on to the round of 32. Cahill and Westling defeated Mattias Bernardi and Pietro Martinetti from College of Charleston 8-6. Rado and Laymon would go on to win 8-4 against The Citadel's Noah Van Dyke and Teodor Cariov.
The Paladins wrap up their fall season November 3-5 at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
