Furman Set For Thursday Clash Versus Mercer

Samford Pays Visit On Saturday

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team returns home for its final two regular season games, entertaining Mercer in a 7:00 p.m. Thursday contest before playing host to Samford in a 2:00 p.m. Saturday clash that will highlight Senior Day for the Paladins.

Thursday's game will be streamed via ESPN+ while Saturday's contest will be carried via ESPN3.  Links for StatBroadcast Live Stats for both games, as well as the live streams, will be provided via FurmanPaladins.com.

Furman (10-17, 2-10 SoCon) enters the contest having dropped three straight and eight of its last night games, including a 69-66 road setback at East Tennessee State last Saturday.  The Paladins are currently tied for seventh place in the Southern Conference with Western Carolina but own the tiebreaker by virtue of their two wins over the Catamounts.

Mercer (11-14, 7-5 SoCon) comes to Greenville tied for fourth place in the league standings, only a game out of first place).  The Bears knocked off the Paladins, 56-42, in Macon on Jan. 28.

Mercer, the reigning SoCon regular season and tournament champion and league leader in 3-point shooting (.386), is led in scoring by graduate All-SoCon guard Amoria Neal-Tysor (15.6 ppg).  Sophomore guard Erin Houpt is the league leader in 3-point shooting (.432).

Furman is paced in scoring (13.0 ppg) by graduate All-SoCon forward Grace van Rij, who ranks fifth in league in field goal perentage (.519).  Guard Jaelyn Acker (11.2 ppg) ranks second in scoring among SoCon freshmen.

Another freshman, guard Ella Riggs, is coming off 15 and 18-point scoring performances against Chattanooga and ETSU.  Over the last four games the Cincinnati, Ohio, product has connected on 7-of-13 3-pointers (.538).

The Paladins' strength this year has been in rebounding, reflected in the +6.9 margin on the glass that include a team leading 7.9 rpg clip by sophomore forward Jada Session.

SoCon Tournament play begins on Thursday, Mar. 2, at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
