Atlanta, Ga. – The Furman men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback in non-conference play to the Georgia State Panthers, Sunday afternoon at the Georgia State Tennis Complex.
Furman drops to 2-4 on the season while Georgia State improves to 1-3 overall.
The Paladins got the match started by securing the doubles point and taking an early 1-0 lead. Furman received wins by

Cole Burnam (6-3) at No. 1 and
Elijah Poritzky/
Jerry Barton (6-1) in the No. 2 match. The wins gave Poritzky and Barton their team best fifth of the season while Kennedy and Burnam collected their third.
The Panthers would then capture singles victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 to pick up the 4-3 triumph.
Burnam, playing at No. 6 singles, recorded his third win of the year after defeating Harrison Kim in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Laymon, who dropped his first set, closed out the match at No. 5 by rallying back in three over Ricardo Batista 0-6, 7-6, 10-7. The win was Laymon's second of the season.
Furman now returns home to Mickel Tennis Center for four consecutive matches beginning on Saturday, February 11 when it hosts Jacksonville State at 1 p.m.
