Furman's Barth Tied For Seventh After Two Rounds At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. -- Freshman Harris Barth (-3) is tied for seventh to lead the Furman men's golf team after two rounds at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by USC Aiken this week at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.

A native of Atlanta, Ga., Barth teed off on No. 14 in round one and birdied No. 17 and No. 18 to turn at 1-under then added birdies on No. 7 and No. 9 to finish with a 1-over 71.  He played virtually a flawless round two, carding five birdies and just one bogey for a 4-under 66.  He is three strokes back of co-leaders Tobias Jonsson (-6) of Mercer and Cameron Huss (-6) of Wisconsin who each had two-round totals of 134 on Monday. 

Sophomore Will Morlan (+1) is tied for 17th after tallying a 73 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, in round one then coming alive with a team-high seven birdies for a 68 in the day's second round. 

Senior Ross Funderburke (+2) enters Tuesday's final round tied for 19th after recording a 71 with two birdies in each round on Monday, while senior Walker Crosby (+2) is tied for 29th after two rounds.  Crosby eagled the par-5 No. 10 and added birdies on No. 11 and No. 14 for a 72 in round one and recorded six birdies for a 72 in the day's second round.

Senior Sam Lape (+7) carded a 72 with four birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 and again on No. 14 and No. 15, for a 72 in the day's opening round then had a 75 with three birdies in round two to tie for 42nd. 

South Carolina (-7) leads the field by seven strokes after two rounds.  Wisconsin (E) is second, followed by Mercer (+1) in third.  VCU (+2) and Davidson (+2) are tied for fourth, while Furman (+3) is just one stroke back in sixth place, four strokes ahead of Virginia Tech (+7).  The Paladins also lead SoCon foes Wofford (11th place +20) and Samford (14th place +39). 

Furman ranked second in the field with 39 birdies on Monday.  The Paladins were tied for third with a 4.15 scoring average on the par 4s and fourth with a 3.03 scoring average on the par 3s. 

The final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.  The Paladins will tee off of holes No. 6 through 11 and play in a group with VCU and Davidson.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.FurmanPaladins.com and http://www.golfstat.com.
