BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Furman women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Souther Conference play after defeating Samford, 5-2, Friday at the Samford Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala.

The Paladins (9-11, 5-0 SoCon) posted two quick doubles victories to take the first point.  Sophomores Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder, who rank 80th nationally, teamed up to beat Lindsay Song and Samantha Nanere, 6-4, at flight one, and senior Madison Dillon and freshman Luca Victoria Vocke beat Cameron Rogin and Olivia Jablonski, 6-2, at number three.  The Bulldogs' Alexis Lopez and Lauren Waddles slipped past sophomores Marissa Pennings and Ellie Schulson, 7-5, at flight two.

Furman scored four singles points for the win, capturing three of the matches in straight sets.  Schulson came from behind to defeat Lopez, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, in the top-seeded contest, and Snyder held off Song, 6-0, 7-6(3), at flight three.  At number five, Dillon topped Rogin, 6-1, 6-4, and at flight six, Vocke downed Jablonski, 6-3, 7-5. 

Samford (11-6, 3-2 SoCon) scored at flights two and four singles.  Ally Hayduk entered the lineup at flight two and recorded a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(10-7) win versus Pennings, and Nanere beat Dawson, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, at number four. 

Furman will entertain Mercer at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center.  The team will celebrate Senior Day for Madison Dillon as part of the pre-match festivities.
