Emil Westling has earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
Westling, a native of Bjärred, Sweden, currently holds a 3.91 GPA and is majoring in applied mathematics. He combined to go 10-8 in 2023 as Furman posted an 11-14 overall record and went 4-3 against Southern Conference opponents. The Paladins advanced to the semifinals of the SoCon Men's Tennis Championship for the ninth straight season.
Westling compiled six singles victories with four coming at the No. 3 position and two at No. 4. He recorded all four of his doubles wins at No. 2 with teammate
Ben Cahill. In conference play, Westling went 4-3 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. He closed out the season winning four of his last five singles matches including three in straight sets.
Nominations and voting for the CSC Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Communicators, formerly College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
CSC Academic All-District Team selections were required to have posted a 3.50 or better GPA, completed at least two semesters at their current school, played in at least half their team's competitions and be considered a starter or key contributor. Freshmen and student-athletes who have transferred in the last year were not eligible.
Each school was also limited in the number of selections it could nominate for each sport.
