INDEPENDENCE, MINN. -- Junior Will Morlan (+2) tied for 25th to lead Furman Monday in the final round of the Gopher Invitational at the par 71, 7,293 yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Morlan fired a 2-under 69 with a team-high five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 in Monday's round. Senior Walker Crosby (+9) tied for 55th after adding a 75 with a birdie on No. 10, and sophomore Clark Akers (+12) shot a 74 with a birdie on No. 16 to tie for 62nd.
Senior Ross Funderburke (+14) posted a final-round 77 to finish the tournament tied for 66th, and senior Mac Scott finished 72nd after tallying a 77 with a birdie on No. 8 in the final round.
Will King (-8) of Kansas won the individual championship by one stroke over Walker Isley (-7) of UNC Wilmington.
UNC Wilmington (-7) scored a five-stroke victory over Kent State (-2), while Kansas (+1) finished third. Marquette (+2) was fourth, and Northwestern (+3) and host Minnesota (+3) tied for fifth. Furman (+35) placed 14th.
The Paladins will compete at Wake Forest's Highlands Invitational in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 18-19.
