WESTCHESTER, Ill. -- Furman junior Trey Diehl (E) is tied for 37th to lead the Paladins Monday after the opening day of the Highlands Invitational at the par 72, 7,490 yard Chicago Highlands Club in Westchester, Ill.
Play was suspended due to darkness with just a few holes left in round two. Six teams, including Furman, will return on Tuesday morning at 8:10 ET to complete round two. Pairings for Tuesday's final round will be set at the conclusion of round two.
A native of Orlando, Fla., Diehl carded an even 72 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12, in the opening round and is even with two holes to play in round two. He has recorded four birdies so far in the second round.
Junior Will Morlan (+3) paced Furman with a 1-under 71 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on his final two holes, in round one and sits at 4-over with two birdies in round two. He is tied for 52nd entering Tuesday's play. Senior Demi Di Matteo (+4), who is tied for 58th, scored a 77 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 12 in round one then rebounded in round two. He is 1-under with one hole left in the round and posted four birdies for the round, including on No. 16 and No. 17, his final two holes of the day.
Senior Walker Crosby (+5) recorded a 1-over 73 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 18 in the first round and sits at 4-over with a birdie on No. 7 in round two. Crosby is tied for 63rd, while sophomore Zach Frazer (+6) is tied for 66th. Frazer tallied a 78 with birdies on No. 12 and No. 18 in round one and is even with a team-high six birdies with one hole to play in the second round. He notched three-straight birdies from No. 3 through No. 5.
Zach Reuland (-11) of College of Charleston leads the field after posting rounds of 66-67=133 .
Virginia (-27) holds a six-stroke lead over host Wake Forest (-21). Missouri (-20) is second, while Duke (-17) and Houston (-17) are tied for fourth. Furman (+8) is 14th in the loaded field, which includes ten Power 5 teams.
