WESTCHESTER, Ill. -- Junior Trey Diehl (E) tied for 27th to pace Furman Tuesday in the final round of the Highlands Invitational at the par 72, 7,490 yard Chicago Highlands Club in Westchester, Ill.
Diehl, who hails from Orlando, Fla., Diehl recorded an even 72 in each of the tournament's three rounds. He added three birdies in the final round, including birdies on two out of three holes from No. 3 through No. 5.
Senior Demi Di Matteo (+1) fired a career-low 69 with a team-high five birdies in round three. He posted consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 and again on No. 17 and No. 18, tying for 30th. Junior Will Morlan (+5) tied for 51st after carding a 75 with three birdies in round three, and sophomore Zach Frazer (+9) tallied a 75 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 18 to tie for 61st. Senior Walker Crosby (+10) shot a 76 with birdies on No. 7 and No. 14 in the final round to tie for 65th.
Wake Forest's Michael Brennan (-12) won the individual championship by one stroke with scores of 66-70-68=204.
Host Wake Forest (-31) and Missouri (-31) tied for the team championship, while Virginia (-30) was one stroke behind in third place. Duke (-13) finished fourth, followed by College of Charleston (-7). Furman (+10) placed 12th in the loaded field, which included ten Power 5 teams.
Furman will square off against Wofford on Oct. 1 at Bright's Creek in Mill Spring, N.C.
