Furman is coming off a thrilling 65-62 victory over Western Carolina before a sellout crowd on Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena that improved the Paladins to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in league play. Guard
JP Pegues broke a 62-62 deadlock by draining a game-winning three from the top of the key with 0.8 seconds remaining. Pegues paced the Paladins with 17 points.
Marcus Foster tallied 14 points and nine rebounds while
Alex Williams added 13 points and career-high 11 boards.
Wednesday's first of two regular season meetings versus Samford marks the 36
th all-time encounter between the SoCon foes with Furman holding a 25-10 series lead. The Paladins have won three straight and eight of the last nine meetings versus the Bulldogs, including a 93-79 triumph in the 2022-23 regular season finale that helped Furman earn a share of the SoCon regular season title with Samford.
After opening the season with losses to Purdue and VCU, Samford (17-2) has reeled off 17 consecutive wins and leads the SoCon with a 6-0 league mark. The Bulldogs downed Mercer, 87-80, in their last outing on Saturday at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala.
