Cameron Ponder

BOSTON, Mass. -- Furman senior Cameron Ponder and sophomore Camryn Wennersten set Paladin record to lead the Furman indoor track and field teams this weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass.  The premier meet showcased some of the nation's top talent just weeks before the NCAA Championship.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ponder posted a time of 7:48.20 in the men's 3,000m.  He was the fourth collegiate finisher and placed tenth overall, breaking the former Paladin record of 7:49.45, which was set by Ryan Adams in 2020.  Adams, who runs professionally for UA Mission Run Baltimore, was in attendance at the meet to congratulate Ponder, who ranks among the NCAA's top 25 in the event this season.

Wennersten, who hails from Ridgewood, N.J., won her heat of the women's 1,000m with a school-record time of 2:46.90.  She won her heat and was third among collegiate runners while finishing eighth overall.

Also at the meet, junior Nick Goldstein finished sixth with a time of 14:09.43, a 19-second personal best, in the 5,000m, and sophomore Luke Taylor posted a time of 14:31.22, a 10-second PR, to take 40th place in the event.  Senior Carson Williams finished 39th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 8:02.87, and senior Dylan Schubert notched a time of 13:58.40, finishing in 51st place in the 5,000m invitational.

On the women's side, senior Megan Marvin recorded a season-best time of 4:42.31 to take 38th place in the mile, and Madelynne Cadeau notched a season-best time of 16:16.29 for 41st in the 5,000m.  Junior Sierra Bower crossed the line in 16:19.39 in the 5,000m, establishing a new personal best.  In the 3,000m, senior Abigail Robertson placed 42nd with a season-best time of 9:20.67, and senior Nicole Matysik was 130th with a season-best time of 9:50.02.

Furman will compete at the USC Invite in Columbia, S.C., next Saturday before heading to Lexington, Va., for the Southern Conference Championship, Feb. 24-25.
