HUMBLE, Texas. -- Furman senior Anna Morgan (-11) finished third Tuesday at the 2024 Chevron Classic, which was hosted by Houston at the par 72, 6,171 yard Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
Morgan, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., notched eight birdies, including six in a row from No. 9 through No. 14, to card a final-round 4-under 68. She teed off on No. 16 in the day's shotgun start, and, after making the turn at 2-over, birdied No. 1 to sit at 1-over. She birdied No. 7 then went on a tear with six-consecutive birdies from No. 9 to No. 14 to solidify her spot among the tournament's top three. Â
Isabel Sy (-12) of Illinois and Nicha Kanpai (-12) of Maryland shared individual medalist honors after finishing one stroke ahead of Morgan. Â
Freshman Audrey Ryu (+8) and sophomore Liza Lapeyre (+8) tied for 70th. Lapeyre carded a final-round 74 with three birdies, while Ryu added a 75 with birdies on No. 13 and No. 18 on Tuesday. Junior Alise Knudson (+9) shot a 75 with a birdie on No. 8 to tie for 75th, and freshman Kelsi Mauzy (+14) concluded the tournament by shooting a 76 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 13. Â
No. 34 SMU (-33) led the field with a 278 on Tuesday to win the tournament by four strokes over Maryland (-29). No. 14 Texas A&M (-24) finished third, followed by Texas State (-17) in fourth place. Texas Tech (-16) completed the top five.
Furman will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., March 4-5, to co-host The Show at Spanish Trail. Â
