RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico. -- Furman senior Anna Morgan (-4) is tied for third after carding a 68 in Sunday's opening round of the at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, which is being hosted by Purdue at the par 72, 6,305 yard Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan teed off on No. 7 and birdied No. 8 and No. 9. She again posted consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 then parred out to finish the round one stroke back of leaders Carla Bernat (-5) of Kansas State and Momo Sugiyama (-5) of Purdue, who each fired an opening round 67.
Junior Alise Knudson (+1) is tied for 30th after posting a 1-over 73 with three birdies on Sunday. She led the field with a 4.25 average on the par 5s. Freshman Audrey Ryu (+2) birdied No. 2 and No. 12 to finish in a tie for 46th with a first-round 74, and sophomore Liza Lapeyre (+5) shot a 77 to tie for 65th. Freshman Kelsi Mauzy (+7) is tied for 82nd after recording a 79 in round one.Â
No. 11 LSU (-5) leads the tournament by one stroke over 12th-ranked Texas A&M (-4). Oklahoma State (-2) is in third place, followed by No. 9 Ole Miss (+2) and Georgia Southern (+2), who are tied for fourth. No. 22 Purdue (+3) is in sixth place, while the Paladins (+4) are tied for seventh with 17th-ranked Auburn, ahead of Power 5 foes Arkansas (+5), Minnesota (+5), and Kansas State (+6) and SoCon rival Mercer (+7).
The Paladins led the field with 65 pars and ranked third with a 4.85 average on the par 5s.Â
The 54-hole tournament continues Monday beginning with a 7:30 a.m. ET shotgun start. The Paladins will tee off on holes No. 7 through No. 9 and will play in a group with Auburn and Arkansas. Tuesday's final round will feature a 6:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
