Box Score Birmingham, Ala. – The Furman men's tennis team resumed its seven-match road trip on Saturday falling 4-1 to the UAB Blazers at the Hoover Met Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 7-8 overall while UAB improves to 8-8 on the season.
The Blazers opened the match by capturing the doubles point following wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Parker Bradbary and Georgios Nouchakis, playing at the No. 1 spot, topped
Thomas Kennedy and
Elijah Poritzky, 6-1, while Carlos Gimenez Perez and Juan Pablo Valdez added a 7-5 victory over
Ben Cahill and
Emil Westling.
Cole Burnam and
Alex Han picked up their sixth win of the season after defeating Kaustubh Holcomb and Chase Parker, 6-3, in the No. 3 match.
UAB followed in singles play winning three of the four completed matches to secure the 4-1 triumph. Vojtech Podzemny won 6-2, 6-3 against Kennedy at No. 2, and Valdez contributed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win playing at No. 4 over
John Rado. In the No. 6 match, Bradbary earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory against
Connor Laymon.
Walker Allen got the Paladins on the board at No. 5 with his straight set win versus Iker Dellien, 6-3, 6-4. The win was Allen's sixth of the year, tying him for second-most on the team.
Furman steps back into Southern Conference action on Sunday afternoon taking on Samford at 1 p.m.
