GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman University's football team is set to report to campus on Tuesday and open preseason camp on Wednesday with a 9:30 a.m. workout at the Bob King Practice Facility.
The Paladins will practice in shorts and helmets and repeat the schedule on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, weather permitting. All practice times are subject to change.
A total of 117 players make up this year's squad. Furman has three graduate players, 10 seniors, 18 juniors, 23 sophomores, and 63 freshmen in its program.
Furman, a second place pick in the recently announced Southern Conference preseason coaches poll and ranked 14th in the HERO Sports 2024 FCS Preseason Poll, returns seven starters off last year's 10-3, SoCon championship team that advanced to the playoff quarterfinals.
Eight Paladins earned preseason all-conference recognition, including four first team selections, and redshirt senior bandit
Luke Clark was named to the Stats Perform Preseason All-America Third Team, which was announced on Monday.
Under the direction of head coach
Clay Hendrix, who in seven seasons has compiled a 51-29 overall record (.638) and 39-16 SoCon worksheet (.709), Furman is among only three FCS programs to post double-digit wins (20-6) the last two seasons, along with South Dakota State and North Dakota State.
Furman's Fan Fest is slated for Saturday, Aug. 17, in Paladin Stadium.
Furman kicks off its 2024 season on Saturday, August 31, at Ole Miss in a 7:00 p.m. ET contest.
