GREENVILLE, S.C. — Four members of Furman's football team have earned 2024 Division I Academic All-District honors, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), it was announced today.
The team includes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The four Paladins earning recognition include linebackers
Evan DiMaggio and
Luke McLaughlin, bandit
Tanner Schuck, and safety
Billy Lewis.
DiMaggio, a redshirt senior, consensus All-Southern Conference selection and Sports Network All-America pick, paced the SoCon with 120 tackles in 2024. A native Buford, Ga., he appeared in 54 games and was credited with 285 tackles in his career. The health sciences major sports a 3.51 GPA and is a three-time Academic All-District honoree.
McLaughlin, a product of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was credited with 13 tackles this past fall. He is a senior and English major with a 3.69 GPA.
Schuck registered 15 tackles, including three for-loss and two sacks, in his first season of play for the Paladins. The Brentwood, Tenn., product has a 4.00 GPA and is a business administration major.
A redshirt freshman from Athens, Ga., Lewis fashioned an impressive campaign after getting the fast track into the starting lineup following injuries in the Paladin secondary. He was credited with five starts, 37 tackles, and a team leading three interceptions, highlighted by a pair of pickoffs against Stetson. He was named Stats Perform National Freshman of the Week after registering nine tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in Furman's 24-21 road win over 21st-ranked East Tennessee State.
