ORLANDO, Fla. -- Furman freshmen Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren fell to Duke's Liv Hovde and Shavit Kimchi, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0[10-3], Wednesday in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division I Doubles Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Paladin duo, one of 32 doubles teams competing for the title, was one of only two all-freshman teams in the doubles draw. Â
Murphy and Warren qualified for the tournament after finishing third at the ITA Conference Masters Championship in San Diego, Calif. The Paladins came from behind to beat Wichita State's Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0[14-12], to advance. Furman posted a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0[10-8] advantage over Anastasiia Grechkina and Alexia Harmon of Pepperdine in the opening round then blanked Delaware's Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska, 6-0, 6-0, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Murphy and Warren topped Ball State's Isabelle Tanjuatco and Sarah Shahbaz, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to eventual champion Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley of San Diego State, 6-2, 6-3.Â
