Jacksonville State Tops Furman On Friday, 5-2

Allen Wins Eighth Singles Match This Season

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Mickel Tennis Center.

Furman drops to 5-10 on the season while Jacksonville State improves to 8-6 overall.

The Paladins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Gamecocks after winning at No. 1 and No. 3 to clinch the doubles point. Jacksonville State struck first when David Krasner and Marko Milosavljevic defeated Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder, 6-1, in the No. 2 match. Furman rallied back starting at No. 3 when Theophile Joly and Matt Kandel topped Alin Fatu and Lucius Soller, 7-5, for their first win of the season. Cole Burnam and Connor Laymon captured the point for the Paladins when they won for the third time this year in a tiebreaker at No. 1 over Logan Haga and Timo De Visser, 7-6(7).

Jacksonville State would secure the victory after winning five consecutive singles matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6. Milosavljevic picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over John Rado at No. 3, and Krasner followed at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Dispas. Charlie Penman defeated Joly at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while De Visser won 7-6(5), 7-5 versus Kandel at No. 1. Aman Dahiya held off Laymon in three sets at No. 6, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-2.

Playing at No. 5, Walker Allen compiled the Paladins' singles point when he won over Fatu in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, to register his eighth victory this season.
