Barth Ties For Fifth To Lead Furman To Third-Place Finish At Hootie At Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. -- Harris Barth (-10) tied for fifth to lead the Furman (-27) men's golf team to a third-place finish Tuesday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,220 yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.  

No. 18 South Carolina (-30) and 39th-ranked Purdue (-30) won the tournament by three strokes over the Paladins.  College of Charleston (-26), who co-hosted the tournament with the Gamecocks, finished fourth, followed by Missouri (-21) and 48th-ranked New Mexico (-21), who tied for fifth.  Furman handily defeated SoCon foes ETSU (-13 - ninth place) and Western Carolina (+10 - 15th place), along with Power 5 opponents N.C. State (-9), Rutgers (-5), Virginia Tech (E), and Iowa (+5). 

Barth, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., fired a final-round 68.  He teed off on No. 1 and birdied four holes on the front to turn at 3-under.  He added additional birdies on No. 10 and No. 16 to finish at 10-under par, four strokes behind individual winner Kieron Van Wyk (-14) of Charleston, who shot a 64 on Tuesday to win the tournament by two strokes with a three-round total of 69-69-64=202.

Junior Clark Akers (-9) tied for seventh after shooting even par with four birdies, including three-straight birdies from No. 2 through No. 4, and seniors Trey Diehl (-3) and Will Morlan (-3) tied for 27th.  Diehl recorded six birdies, with birdies on five of seven holes from No. 2 through No. 8, to finish Tuesday's round with a 68, while Morlan tallied a final-round 70 with four birdies, including three straight on holes No. 2 through No. 4.  Freshman David Oliver, IV, (+3) added a 1-under 71 with five birdies, tying for 62nd.  

The Paladins, who had all five players shoot par or better in the final round, posted 25 birdies on Tuesday to finish second in the field with 60 birdies over the three rounds.  Furman was second with a 4.63 scoring average on the par 5s, while Akers led the field with a 2.73 average on the par 3s.  

Furman will conclude the 2025 regular season at the Haskins Invitational, April 5-6, in Augusta, Ga., before heading to the SoCon Championship, April 20-22, in Greensboro, Ga.
