Furman's Walters, Johnson Named CSC Academic All-District

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman women's basketball standouts Tate Walters and Kate Johnson have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division I Academic All-District Team, it was announced today.

The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Both Walters and Johnson are repeat selections to the squad.

Walters, a 5-foot-9, Buford, Ga., product, paced Furman in scoring (12.5 ppg) and assists (119) this season and fashioned a stellar Paladin tenure, finishing with 1,268 points, good for 14th in program history, and with 453 assists, which ranks second all-time at Furman.

A three-time SoCon All-Tournament Team selection, she twice earned All-SoCon honors and was a multiple SoCon Academic Honor Roll and SoCon All-Academic Team selection.  In addition, she captured the league's Ann Lashley Inspiration Award in 2024 after successfully battling back from a torn Achilles tendon injury that sidelined her for the 2022-23 campaign.

Walters sports a 3.58 GPA and earned her undergraduate degree in communications from Furman in the spring of 2023 and will soon be accorded a master's degree in strategic design.

Johnson, a senior who earned 2023-24 All-SoCon honors, averaged 10.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this past year.  The 6-foot-4 Canton, Ga., product, three-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll selection, and two-time All-Academic Team selection, finished her career with 725 points and 434 rebounds.

A business administration major, she sports a 3.56 grade point average.
