RALEIGH, N.C. -- Junior Carly Wilkes won the 10,000m and established a new Furman program record to lead the Paladin track and field teams this weekend to conclude the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility on the campus of N.C. State. The meet was one nation's first premier competitions during the outdoor season.
A native of Salem, Va., Wilkes, who was paced by senior Sierra Bower, recorded a time of 33:20.08 to take gold in the 10K, breaking the former Furman record of 33:35.11, which was set by Savannah Carnahan at the Raleigh Relays in 2019. Wilkes' time ranks ninth on the NCAA East Preliminaries qualifying list at this point in the outdoor season.
Senior Nicole Matysik finished tenth with a personal-best time of 10:16.36 in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Her time ranks seventh in the East region so far this season.
Furman will compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., and at the Asheville Bulldog Invite in Asheville, N.C., April 10-12.
