Furman's Schubert Qualifies For NCAA Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman senior Dylan Schubert has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held March 14-15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

A native of Loveland, Colo, Schubert has qualified in the 5,000m.  He ranks tenth nationally with a time of 13:17.89 in the event, a Furman program record which he posted Dec. 7 at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass.

Schubert, who posted a 3,000m personal best of 7:52.82 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational last month, was named the 2024 NCAA Southeast Region Male Athlete of the Year after placing third at the NCAA Championship in the fall.  He became the first three-time All-American in Paladin cross country history after recording the highest national finish in the history of the Furman cross country program.

"We are very proud of Dylan's qualification," said Furman head coach Robert Gary.  "The NCAA is so competitive, and these times have gone berserk, especially over the last few years.  The public got to see a full strength/prepared Dylan at the NCAA Cross Country Championship where he placed third.  I think indoors and outdoors will be just as good, if not better!"

Sixteen athletes will compete in each event at the championships.  The men's 5,000m is slated for 8:12 p.m. on Friday, March 14.

ESPN+ will stream the championships live starting at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, March 14 and starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15.  There will be a re-air of the championships at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 on ESPNU.
